Mahalia's "I Wish I Missed My Ex" is currently pushing two million views on YouTube, and for good reason. The Highland Park-set video, shot in reverse over the course of 22 hours by director Andrew Litten, adds another layer of 🔥 to the Maths Time Joy and Swindle-produced single.
Now, the track has been given the added boost of a Wale remix. "After u hear this, let's discuss the quality of the verses this year," Wale said when sharing his take on the track Monday. Stream his "I Wish I Missed My Ex" rework below via SoundCloud.
Mahalia, who bagged a record deal at age 13, toldDazed back in June that she's a "lover of love," a relatable trait that's informed her more recent work. "I don't love heartbreak, but I guess I love what it does to my writing," Mahalia, now 20, said. "Everyone's like, 'I don't know who is hurting Mahalia, but keep going.'"
Wale, meanwhile, is fresh off the release of his "Black Bonnie" video and a string of remixes including Cardi B and H.E.R. in May, he announced a new deal with Warner Bros. The label falls under the Warner Music Group conglomerate, which also counts Atlantic—Wale's former home—in its ranks. "I felt their passion, commitment, and enthusiasm from day one," Wale told Complex of the new deal.
Earlier this month, Wale was among the artists selected for the latest edition of Jimmy Kimmel's Mean Tweets segment. He was joined by Lil Wayne, Big Sean, and more.
