Get ready to time travel back to 2002. Khalid just dropped his new music video for “OTW” featuring 6lack and Ty Dolla Sign, arguably one of the best slow jams of the summer (sorry Ella Mai). This nostalgic visual pays homage to the dreamy vibe of early 2000s R&B, an era that likely influenced young Khalid.
"OTW" opens on the three artists sporting matching jackets and sliding side-to-side in unison, as classic music video credits appear in the lower left corner. We then zoom out on a playfully pink teen bedroom, where a gang of cute girls are getting ready for a night out. Khalid croons on the TV in the background, reminding us all of that magical time when music videos played on cable networks.
The clip is sprinkled with other wistful gems: there’s a landline phone, a T-Mobile Sidekick (who didn’t want one of those?), and a Kodak Printomatic camera. As Khalid, 6lack, and Ty talk about doting on their significant others, the visuals harken back to a simpler time before Snapchat or Instagram.
“OTW” follows Khalid’s single “Love Lies,” a duet with Normani, formerly of Fifth Harmony. These are likely the first two tracks from Khalid's sophomore effort, a follow-up to the wildly successful debut album American Teen, which he released right before graduating high school in 2017. In an interview with Billboard, Khalid confirmed a new album would be coming before the end of 2018, but no word yet on a title or possible release date.
In the meantime, all three artists are touring this summer. Ty is preparing to join G-Eazy, Lil Uzi Vert, YBN Nahmir, P-Lo, and Murda Beatz on the Endless Summer Tour, which kicks off July 20. Khalid is wrapping up his summer tour in Europe, and 6lack is currently joining forces with Chris Brown on the Heartbreak on a Full Moon Tour.
