Childish Gambino Announces Mysterious 'Summertime Starts Here' Experience

If you're wise enough to live in Los Angeles, New York, or London, then you'll have a chance to catch one of Gambino's mysterious 'Summertime Starts Here' events in person.

Childish Gambino has put together a series of summertime-confirming events for this weekend, just days after releasing a pair of summertime-centric new tracks. Hopefully, you live in one of the three greatest cities on Earth so you can actually experience the latest act of Gambino awesomeness in person.

As you may have noticed, Gambino currently follows only a single account on Instagram. It's this one:

"Come out to enjoy some Summertime Magic," reads the Instagram profile's bio. Clicking the link takes you to a list of experiences dates for this weekend in New York, London, and—perhaps most importantly, since this will directly affect me—Los Angeles. According to long-running Gambino fansite Forever Childish, the events are free. While some have speculated that Gambino will be performing, that seems unlikely for all the events given that several of them overlap.

Peep the dates:

  • July 13 Union Square | New York 12 - 4 p.m. EST
  • July 14 Fort Greene Park | New York 12 - 4 p.m. EST
  • July 14 Santa Monica Pier | Los Angeles 12 - 4 p.m. PST
  • July 14 Gunnersbury Park | London 1 - 10 p.m. GMT
  • July 15 Fairfax High School | Los Angeles 12 - 4 p.m. PST

Complex was on location for the first event at New York's Union Square.

The music was blasting the ice cream was free, and there’s even a special Snapchat filter to capture it all. The Summertime Starts Here site will be displaying Snaps from each location, though the Lens itself isn't exclusive to those actually on-site.

In September, Gambino will kick off his This Is America tour with support from Rae Sremmurd and Vince Staples on select dates. The tour wraps Oct. 12 in Nashville.
