Since returning home from prison last week, Meek Mill had yet to comment on the other biggest story in rap right now: Kanye West's controversies.
That changed Tuesday night as he shared a mock memorial of the "old" Kanye West on Instagram. The image is accompanied by a caption that quotes Kanye's 2007 single, "Can't Tell Me Nothing." Meek writes, "To whom much is giving much is tested.... get arrested I guess until he get the message.. I feel the pressure under more scrutiny and what I do 'act more stupidly.' After a couple hashtags that say "#oldye" and "#wemissyoubro," he finishes, "Them bars touched me in my cell!"
Currently out on bail, Meek recently sat down with Dateline NBC and explained, "I don't feel free. I ain't felt free since I caught this case at the age of 19. I'm 30 now. I just pray. I believe God is my first lawyer. I always believed that. And I've got a strong team behind me. I've got a lot of support." Later, he added, "Being as I'm in this position, I've got a lot of responsibility. I've got a lot of important people depending on me. And I'm not talking about public officials, I'm talking about men that's depending on me, going through the same thing I'm going through."
It's unclear which of Kanye's recent controversial comments prompted Meek to post this image, but there are plenty to choose from. Kanye followed last week's pro-Trump comments with a visit to TMZ Live on Tuesday, where he said 400 years of slavery "sounds like a choice."
Met with immediate criticism, Kanye attempted to clarify his slavery comments by tweeting, "To make myself clear. Of course I know that slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will. My point is for us to have stayed in that position even though the numbers were on our side means that we were mentally enslaved [...] The reason why I brought up the 400 years point is because we can't be mentally imprisoned for another 400 years. We need free thought now. Even the statement was an example of free thought. It was just an idea."
