Cardi B took some time out on Instagram to reflect on a time she couldn't be on a song because she was "too small."

For many, the holidays come at a time of year where people reflect on the year they just made it through, taking stock in how they've come up (or gone down) in that time. Cardi B, who is one of the most down-to-Earth artists out there, is no different, as seen on a recent Instagram Live session, where she remembered a time when she wasn't hot enough to get on an unnamed rapper's song.

"I did a verse to somebody's song," Cardi begins, "and other artists were on the song as well. I was so excited because I felt like my verse was so poppin'. Then, the artist told me that I couldn't be on the song anymore because one of the artists that was on the song felt like I was too small and they were too big for me to be on the same song with them."

As Cardi explained, "I was just fresh off Love & Hip-Hop and everything, and that shit broke my heart." She remembers it being around Christmas time, but she doesn't give an actual year (although it could very well have been Christmas 2016, based on how her glow up is very 2017-centric). Cardi later admits that she doesn't have thick skin and that the things people say get to her, but it sounds like the people she had in her corner helped her change into the Grammy-nominated bad ass who has owned the year.

Cardi also talks to the people questioning where her next project is: "Be patient. A bitch is gonna put something out. You think I'm gonna hold shit, or Atlantic is gonna hold shit? No. We wanna make money as fast as we can." She then goes into the process of making music, from clearing lines in records to artists possibly wanting to get on her tracks.

Clearly, Cardi has a lot to be praising this holiday season. And with any success story like hers, it's always important to look back at where you came from.
