Exactly two years since the release of Run the Jewels 2, Killer Mike and El-P finally come through today with their first Run the Jewels 3 single, "Talk to Me." The reverberating rap track was produced by El-P and co-produced by Little Shalimar and Wilder Zoby.
Killer Mike has been extremely vocal this election season, originally throwing his support behind Senator Bernie Sanders, so it's not too surprising that the project's first single takes on a highly politicized tone. "Went to war with the devil and shaytan/He wore a bad toupee and a spray tan," Killer Mike raps. Another bar addresses the Black Lives Matter movement directly with Killer Mike spitting, "Born black, that's dead on arrival/My job is to fight for survival/In spite of all of these all lives matter ass white folk."
The pair also jumped on a quick interview with Beats 1's Zane Lowe to discuss their new project. El-P confirmed that the project is almost done and that it is in the mixing and mastering stage. Meanwhile, Killer Mike compared the discussed the new single, comparing it to "World War 3 and the apocalypse." He told Zane, "This is a powerful one—we always knew that this would probably be the first one we were gonna drop. This one just felt right—it opens it up. When people hear this, they’re gonna get a piece of the energy to come. We're definitely not playing games." They went on to describe RTJ3 as "the greatest thing that we artistically have done together."
Based on the previously released album track, "Panther Like a Panther," which debuted in the the Gears of War 4 trailer and "Talk to Me," RTJ3 is shaping up to be another huge release. Stream Run the Jewels' "Talk to Me" below or head over to Adult Swim to download the track for free here.
