UPDATED 7/13/16: The day has finally arrive. El-P just declared the winner of the Pokémon rap remix contest.
See below for the original story.
Pokémon fans are a passionate bunch, and with the release of the new app Pokémon Go, it was difficult to escape last week's fervor for the game. Rapper, producer, and one half of Run the Jewels, El-P, decided to have a little bit of fun at enthusiasts' expense last night.
then again i dont actually care. but i will laugh the second one of you gets hit by a car. or softly chuckle to myself. sadly. soft but sad.— el-p (@therealelp) July 9, 2016
The only problem was, a whole hell of a lot of Pokémon fans weren't at all impressed with El's attempt at humor.
@therealelp you’re just mad there’s no Pikachu to catch in your neighborhood.— Özgür Kurtoğlu (@BordeauxBlues) July 9, 2016
@therealelp don’t judge me if the next time you’re on stage i tell you to kindly move the fuck over so i can get my charmander.— James Hall (@imjameshall) July 9, 2016
@therealelp tbh, I like it. I can see why you don't tho. I just want to note that accident reports so far are false. Cartel Press clickbait.— F四urD死ath (@Shiro4Life) July 9, 2016
watching el-p go full angry dad over pokemon all afternoon has been fantastic 👌— guided by vices (@corcrane) July 9, 2016
A short while later El-P conceded his original point and offered an olive branch.
ive gotten more negative feedback from the pokemon community than i have from trump supporters. im actually impressed.— el-p (@therealelp) July 9, 2016
ok i've thought about it and here is my improved, moderate stance: i want you to be happy, but i do not share this particular enthusiasm.— el-p (@therealelp) July 9, 2016
hey guys sorry about those last tweets i was hacked. now im not hacked and its me and you love me. so... all good now.— el-p (@therealelp) July 9, 2016
man what a day. savage and heartless bastard hacked my account and shit on the one thing that really binds us. just glad its over.— el-p (@therealelp) July 9, 2016
Then, he hopped over to Instagram to lay down a Pokémon-themed freestyle.
