If you've injured yourself while desperately seeking the remote to change the channel when Sarah McLachlan's depressing PSA for the ASPCA comes on, you're not alone. It turns out the "Angel" singer and star of TV's saddest ads isn't a big fan of watching them either. "I can't watch them, it just kills me," she said in an interview with the website Makers. "I have to say, it was brutal doing those ads because it was like 'Can you just be a little more sad?'"

Despite the upsetting nature of her commercial, McLachlan doesn't regret doing it in the first place. "It worked like a hot damn. Those ads generated over $30 million for the ASPCA." She also enjoyed the way that it expanded her audience. "I'd be at Target in like Missouri at 10 o'clock at night getting off the tour bus. I'd be going down the aisle and these two little old ladies would be like 'Are you that dog lady? I love your song.'" Apparently clawing at people's heartstrings is a great way to raise money. Let us know how you feel about McLachlan's ASPCA ads in the comments below, and watch her full interview here.
