After a full and eclectic career, renowned music video director and screenwriter Ric Menello passed away from a heart attack on Friday. Menello was perhaps best known for co-directing (alongside Adam Dubin) the Beastie Boys’ legendary videos for “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)” and “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” in 1986 and ‘87 respectively. Menello was also famously a friend and mentor to producer/Def Jam co-founder Rick Rubin.

Outside of the music industry, Menello earned his fame as the writer of the Joaquin Phoenix, Gwyneth Paltrow film Two Lovers and the upcoming Lowlife starring Phoenix, Jeremy Renner and Marion Cotillard. Celebrate Menello’s influential career by watching the "No Sleep" and “Fight for Your Life” videos below.
