Amid the sustaining controversy surrounding the recent rollout of a SFW app, as well as subsequent reports that the platform would be banning content determined to contain “sexually explicit conduct,” OnlyFans has shared an update focused on the latter.

In a tweeted statement on Wednesday, the company thanked everyone for “making your voices heard,” noting they have since “secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community.” Furthermore, OnlyFans has “suspended the planned October 1 policy change.”

As previously reported, the recently announced change—which had been widely and passionately criticized for its potential impact on the livelihoods of sex workers—saw the company putting the blame on banks. Speaking with Patricia Nilsson for the Financial Times earlier this week, OnlyFans founder and CEO Tim Stokely also pushed back against claims that investment-related concerns helped fuel the decision.

“This decision was made to safeguard their funds and subscriptions from increasingly unfair actions by banks and media companies — we obviously do not want to lose our most loyal creators,” Stokely said Tuesday.

In recent weeks, a number of other platforms have stepped up to counter the OnlyFans criticism by pointing to the adult content-friendly structuring of their services. UNLOCKD, for instance, said in a recent press release that its models retain 85 percent of their earnings, as opposed to the reported 80 percent found on OnlyFans.

This month’s plethora of OnlyFans-related news has also inspired a number of sex workers who had previously been active on the site to begin migrating to other platforms like Fansly, PocketStars, and more. And in response to Wednesday’s news of the OnlyFans policy change being suspended, multiple sex workers expressed frustration at how the confusion surrounding all of this has negatively affected their reach. Some have also demanded an apology from the site, while others have suggested a boost in the payout percentage as consolation.

Reached for additional comment by Complex on Wednesday, a rep for OnlyFans confirmed that the proposed Oct. 1 changes are “no longer required due to banking partners’ assurances that OnlyFans can support all genres of creators.”
