Nutter Butter is the latest company to trend on social media after making a dirty joke in an attempt to promote its brand.

Home to its signature peanut butter cookie, Nutter Butter took to Twitter on Monday to unleash a tweet that read, “N is for the way you nut at me.”

It didn’t take long before the tweet circulated on social media, as several users poked fun at the Nabisco-owned company for its dirty joke.

“This took 6 weeks of planning, a combined effort of Nutter Butter creative and marketing, in-house counsel, outside consulting, social media rapid response team, ten interns, and a janitor who scrawled mysterious equations on a whiteboard. The CEO personally clicked ‘tweet,’ one Twitter user joked.

Meanwhile, another person joked that the tweet would lead a Republican to “ban” Nutter Butter, while another admitted they expected this behavior from Planters Peanuts, but not Nutter Butter.

“I thought this was @MrPeanut,” they wrote. “Then I realized it was another nut related brand tweeting with reckless abandon.”

It isn’t the first time this year that a brand trended on social media for their questionable humor. Back in April, Snickers trended on social media after photos circulated suggesting the Mars Inc.-owned company “deveined” its classic treat so it would no longer be blatantly reminiscent of a penis.

People started running with the rumor on the grounds that another Mars-owned company, M&M’s, announced in January plans to give its iconic characters a makeover to coincide with our “more dynamic, progressive world.”
