One person is dead and at least two others injured following a shooting at a senior-housing complex in Westerly, Rhode Island.
"There is no active shooter," John Moretta, executive assistant to the Westerly town manager, said in a statement to NBC News on Thursday. The two injured have been transported to nearby hospitals, with information on their conditions still uncertain at this time.
The building in question, Babcock Village, is a site for affordable housing for senior citizens and disabled individuals who meet certain income requirements.
In a statement directing additional questions to Westerly Police and other local authorities, Babcock Village rep Michael Masseur said he and the apartment complex staff were "shocked and saddened" by the events of Thursday.
"Our priority, as always, is the safety of our residents and staff," Masseur told regional outlet ABC 6. "We are working with law enforcement to address this situation." According to a separate report from Providence Journal, the suspected shooter—who had not been publicly identified at the time of this writing—was also dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities are expected to reveal more information on the shooting at a press conference Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, a conservative radio show co-host had his program canceled this week after wishing for a "nice school shooting" to distract from Trump's impeachment. The conservative co-host later claimed the comment was made as a joke. Regardless, the widely panned remark cost him and his co-host their gig.
