George Floyd’s four-year-old niece, identified as Arianna Delane, was injured during a shooting in Houston over the weekend.

Per a regional report from KPRC-TV, Arianna was at her family’s apartment when she was shot in the torso during the early hours of Saturday. Arianna’s father, Derrick Delane, told reporters that his daughter “jumped up” and told them she had been hit during the shooting. Derrick’s wife then drove them to a nearby hospital.

According to Derrick, Arianna’s injuries included a punctured liver and lung, as well as broken ribs. A separate report, this one from KTRK-TV, adds that the family’s apartment is said to have been hit “several times” during the shooting. Arianna, as of Tuesday, was still hospitalized following surgery but has since been reported to be in stable condition.

This is 4-year-old Arianna. She was front and center at the marches and rallies in her Uncle George Floyd’s case.

Derrick has also pointed out the hours-long delay in response from local police, stating that officers didn’t arrive at the scene until 7 a.m. local time. In a statement shared Tuesday, Houston Police Department Chief Troy Finner said he had “concerns” about the delayed response time.

“I am aware and have concerns regarding the delayed response time in this incident and have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation,” Finner said. “I ask the city [to] continue to pray for the child’s full recovery and assist in providing information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects responsible.”

Complex has reached out to a rep for the Houston Police Department for additional comment. In a previous statement shared on Tuesday, detectives offered the following:

“A suspect or suspects fired several shots into an apartment at the above address as four adults and two children were inside the apartment.  One of the children was struck in the torso.  She was transported in a private vehicle to an area hospital where she underwent surgery and is currently in stable condition.”

In June of last year, former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 22.5 years after being convicted in the 2020 murder of George Floyd. Last month, Chauvin pleaded guilty to a federal charge of violating Floyd’s civil rights.
