Valeesha Duncan was killed in her garage near Katy, Texas on Tuesday morning after a gunman fired about 50 shots at her, reportedly after the mother of an 11-year-old son returned home from work.

Harris County sheriff’s deputies arrived to the scene at approximately 5:25 a.m. Deputies say that there were numerous bullet holes in the 31-year-old’s car, and Duncan was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

“She was a good person. Really sweet, very kind,” Timothy Richard, Duncan’s friend and the father of her son, told ABC-13. “Something like this is crazy, it’s always happening to good people.”

Richard, along with other family members, reportedly waited at the crime scene for hours trying to get more info.

“She was supposedly coming [home] from work,” said Major Susan Cotter. “She works at a gentlemen’s club in the Galleria area.” She added, “At this point, we’re waiting on a search warrant of the residence so we can conduct a full search of that house.”

It’s not clear at this point if Valeesha Duncan was the shooter’s intended target. The investigation is still in the early stages, but authorities don’t believe the shooting stemmed from domestic violence. Though a vehicle was seen leaving the scene, police are seeking more surveillance footage. It’s believed only one shooter was involved.

The string of gunfire awoke startled neighbors.

“I feel safe living here. I never worry about closing my eyes,” block captain Rhonda Thorton said. “We mostly have just a few things going on, maybe unlocked cars getting broken into, something getting stolen out of a garage, but other than that, nothing like this.”
