On Monday night five members of the Houston police department were wounded in a shooting that took place on the city's southeast side. The shooting happened as the officers were serving a warrant. All five have since been rushed to a local hospital, including an officer who had to be air-lifted there. Furthermore, two suspects have been killed. They were reportedly barricading themselves inside of a residence.

Police have warned everyone within the area to stay away:

So far it isn't clear what led to the shooting, but members of SWAT and federal agents have since arrived on the scene.

According to CBS, two of the officers involved are in critical condition. Of the remaining three, one was shot in the arm, one was shot in the shoulder, and the other was shot in the face.

Texas governor Greg Abbott issued a statement: "This evening's horrific attack on police officers is a solemn reminder of the service and sacrifice our brave men and women in law enforcement make every day to keep us safe," that statement said. "The city of Houston and the Houston Police Department will have whatever state resources they need to bring swift justice to those involved. I ask all Texans to join Cecilia and me in praying for the officers injured, and for the continued safety of all law enforcement officers who protect our communities."

We will update as new information comes in.
