According to a Texas sheriff's office, a 10-year-old boy was taken to a hospital in critical condition after his babysitter accidentally shot him while simultaneously holding a gun and posing for selfies.
That boy is currently recovering. After having surgery, his condition was improved to serious. A full recovery is expected.
This incident occurred at a Houston apartment on Tuesday evening. As it turns out, the babysitter was the 19-year-old aunt of the child.
Authorities say that the sitter believed the gun was unloaded and starting posing and taking pictures with it. During the course of this it went off and shot the boy in the stomach.
Caitlyn Smith was charged for the incident for injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. She's due in court on Friday.
"Firearms are dangerous weapons so take precautions to make sure things like [this] don't happen," said Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland to CNN. "Taking selfies was not the best thing to be doing."
Sound advice.
