In an effort to combat claims about the controversial working environment of Amazon employees at company fulfillment centers, the retail giant has created a group of “Ambassadors” whose mission is to foil any reports of bad working conditions through tweets promoting the company's greatness.
The Ambassador group includes 15 various Twitter users whose bio reads the same way: “[Job title] @ [Warehouse Location]. [Length of service] Amazonian. [List of things they like outside of work].”
Each of the users also have the Amazon's logo as their header, while their bios link to a website where you can sign up for an Amazon warehouse tour. Twitter user @bornwithatail_ first noticed Amazon’s tactic, which The Sun later reported on, through an interview with an Amazon representative, who verified the existence of the Amazon FC Ambassador club.
“FC ambassadors are employees who have experience working in our fulfillment [sic] centers," the spokesperson told The Sun. “The most important thing is that they’ve been here long enough to honestly share the facts based on personal experience.”
They continued, “It’s important that we do a good job of educating people about the actual environment inside our fulfillment centers, and the FC ambassador program is a big part of that along with the fulfillment [sic] center tours we provide.”
By allowing customers to visit fulfillment centers, the tours help Amazon push a better reputation. FC Ambassadors also help propel positivity around the situation. Ambassador “Shaye" replied to a Twitter user’s allegation that a “good number of Amazon employees are on food stamps.”
“I work at one in [Texas] and can assure you – not on food stamps/never have been,” Shaye responded. “In fact, I know a LOT of the people in this warehouse & have yet to meet one who is.... We receive good pay and a generous benefits package. Lots of ops to move up into even higher paying jobs too.”
Another Ambassador “Phil” rejected any ideas of misconduct when another user said that Amazon employees are treated “like shit.” According to the FC Ambassadors, they aren’t being paid more for being part of the club.
