A Florida man was arrested after authorities said he threatened his neighbor with pocket knives and claimed he would eat her dog during a dispute over a public path.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began on Friday, October 17, when 61-year-old Minor Catledge confronted his neighbor as she walked her dog along a public trail in Putnam County, about 72 miles south of Jacksonville.

People reports that Catledge allegedly told the woman that he believed the path belonged to him and warned her that he would “eat her dog” if she trespassed again.

Deputies were called to the scene and spoke with Catledge, appearing to resolve the situation. But just over an hour later, police said Catledge showed up at the neighbor’s home armed with knives. At that point, the dispute escalated.

“The victim called a little over an hour later after Catledge approached her property with a knife and began threatening her and other family members,” the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

An Interlachen police officer who arrived before deputies reported hearing Catledge make direct threats. The victim told officers that Catledge also threatened to stab her for calling law enforcement earlier in the day.

Catledge was taken into custody without incident and charged with aggravated assault. Authorities said that while being transported to the Putnam County Jail, he made additional threats, telling deputies he planned to “beat” the woman once he was released.

A mug shot released by the sheriff’s office shows Catledge wearing a gray shirt with disheveled hair and a grim expression. He is currently being held in the Putnam County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

Police shared the case on social media, noting the unusual nature of the threats. The sheriff’s office has not released further details about the property dispute, but the investigation remains ongoing.

The victim and her dog were unharmed in the incident.
