Shooting at Illinois Halloween Party Leaves 2 Dead, at Least 12 Injured

A mass shooting at a Halloween party in Illinois led to two deaths and at least 12 injuries. The two male suspects are still at large according to police.

A mass shooting at a Halloween party in Illinois led to two deaths and at least 12 injuries, NBC Chicago reports.

Between 10 and 12 gunshots were heard Sunday by a patrol sergeant in Joliet Township around 12:39 a.m., as more than 100 people reportedly ran from the scene of the shooting. According to authorities, the incident took place on East Jackson Street when two gunmen opened fire from a porch overlooking the event, which had about 200 people in attendance.

Gunshots reportedly took place even as officers worked to save those who were injured at the scene. Two people were pronounced dead and four others suffered life-threatening injuries. Over 12 people were injured during the shooting and were taken to local hospitals.

“All of a sudden as we’re dancing and stuff by the patio shots started going off like by the porch,” Adolfo Sandoval, who wat the party, told WGN. “Even when we ran, we were just getting bombarded everywhere/ Everyone was getting stepped on.”

Will County Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force are working to investigate the shooting, according to a Facebook post, with officials searching for two shooters described as a Hispanic male with facial hair who was wearing red hoodie, a black flat-billed hat and dark pants, as well as an “averaged-sized, light-skinned Black male or Hispanic man” wearing a ski mask and yellow hoodie.

“The Will County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in trying to identify individuals that attended this Halloween party,” the office wrote in a Facebook post. “If anyone has information, cellphone pictures or video of the party, or potential suspect information, you are urged to contact the Will County Sheriff’s Office. This investigation is still on-going and additional information will be provided when appropriate.”
