Pornhub, an adult film site that we publicly know nothing about, but we're privately well aware of, has released its annual year in review, detailing what men and women were searching for and watching in 2019.
"Amateur" was the top search on Pornhub in 2019, followed by "Alien" and "POV." While we have no answers for why "Alien" became such a popular search this year, Dr. Laurie Betito believes the emergence of "Amateur" speaks to an overall increased interest in seeing "more realistic depictions of sex" on the site.
"It seems that people are looking for more realistic depictions of sex," Dr. Betito of the Sexual Wellness Center told Pornhub. "'Real' people vs. actors seems to be the draw. It's interesting that more and more people are putting themselves out there as amateurs. Sex has become so much less taboo that those who get a kick out of exhibitionism can do so with very little experience or equipment. The message is: anyone can be a porn star!"
Lana Rhoades was, by far, the most searched pornstar on Pornhub in 2019, jumping three spots from last year with 345 million video views. Mia Khalifa and Riley Reid stayed pat at second and third place for a second straight year. The most popular celebrities list, meanwhile, was topped by controversial YouTuber and streamer Belle Delphine, who posted videos on the site after infamously selling her bath water online.
Other celebrities to make the list include Kim Kardashian at the No. 2 spot, followed by Cardi B, Lena the Plug, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez, Kylie Jenner, and Maitland Ward. The list is unsurprisingly dominated by female celebrities, but YouTuber PewDiePie, Neymar, and Shawn Mendes also cracked the list.
As for characters and franchises, Avengers came out top thanks to the hype surrounding the massive Endgame. With over 13 million searches in 2019, Avengers was closely followed by Harley Quinn, Teen Titans,The Incredibles, Captain Marvel, Family Guy, Star Wars, and The Simpsons. The property to get the biggest boost at a 3,345 perecent increase in Pornhub searches over 2018 is Joker, inspired by Joaquin Phoenix's wildly popular take on the villain. Disturbingly, The Walking Dead and Big Mouth also made appearances with over 1 million searches each.
Video game characters have remained an incredibly popular category on the site, too, with Overwatch once again dominating the search. Fornite, Pokémon, Minecraft, Apex Legends, Resident Evil, and Mortal Kombat were also among the most searched-for franchises.
"Japanese," "Amateur," and "Mature" were the top three most viewed categories among men while women were most interested in watching "Lesbian," followed by "Popular With Women" and "Japanese" this year.
