Popeyes Owner Explains Why Employee Made Sandwiches on Trash Can

This is far from the worst thing to have happened at a Popeyes since the chicken sandwich returned.

The chicken in Popeye's sandwich

Popeyes restaurants across the country have been overwhelmed by customers hoping to get their hands on a chicken sandwich. This led one employee to invent an innovative but unsanitary way to meet the demand.

On Friday, TMZ obtained images of an employee at a Fairfax, Virginia Popeyes scrambling to put together chicken sandwiches. But instead of using the counter, the employee decided to use a tray on top of a trash can as a work table. The makeshift station was in the customers' line of sight, resulting in a lot of questions. Now, the owner of the location is explaining what caused the incident.

The unnamed owner tells TMZ that the location was just hit with a 100 sandwich order. Because they were trying to get the other meals out in a timely manner, there was no space for these sandwiches to be made. The owner also claims that the trash can was empty and that the employee was a recent hire. After the picture surfaced, he ordered a brand new table that reportedly arrived at the location on Monday.

This is far from the worst thing to have happened at a Popeyes since the chicken sandwich returned. Earlier this month, a man in nearby Prince George's County, Maryland was stabbed to death during a dispute that stemmed from the sandwich. In Tennessee, an employee was caught on camera body slamming in a Popeyes' parking lot after the white woman called him the n-word.
