A woman who entered a San Diegochurch carrying a baby and a gun was tackled by those inside after she threatened to "blow up" the building.
The incident went down Sunday at Mt. Everest Academy around noon local time, per CNN, and ultimately resulted in the woman being taken into custody by police. "She was saying stuff that was kind of delusional," Ronald Farmer, who was in attendance at the time, said. "I was more worried about getting my family out of there."
In a news release, the San Diego Police Department said they arrived at the church, which Church Tsidkenu leases, within two minutes of the initial emergency call. The woman was described as being in her "late 20s or early 30s." The gun she was waving while making threats was later determined to have been unloaded.
"In addition the 10-month-old baby at the scene, the suspect's 5-year-old daughter was located during a follow-up and was found to be healthy and unhurt," a police rep said Sunday. "Both children have been taken into protective custody and will be evaluated by Child Welfare Services."
Charges against the woman, identified as Anna Conkey, include making criminal threats and displaying a handgun in a threatening manner.
The incident occurred the same day as the fatal bombings at churches and hotels across Sri Lanka. The attacks left hundreds dead and have since been linked to what authorities believe is an international terrorist network. In a statement Saturday, San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit said there was "nothing to indicate a connection to San Diego," though extra officers had been stationed near houses of worship as a precaution.
