Tarmac, Florida resident Ben Dickmann decided to give his AR-57, a variant of the AR-15, to the Broward Sheriff's Office on Friday because he believes he doesn't need it anymore. "I will be the change I want to see in this world," Dickmann explained in a Facebook post. "If our lawmakers will continue to close their eyes and open their wallets, I will lead by example."

We're nearly a week removed from the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida which killed 17 children and teachers, and it seems as though lawmakers have made absolutely no strides towards ensuring that something like this doesn't happen again. Therefore, we need to rely on citizens like Dickmann who want to do their part in being the change that they want to see in this world.

Like Dickmann, we all need to realize that no regular citizen needs to own a semi-automatic rifle. "I do not need this rifle. No one without a law enforcement badge needs this rifle," he wrote. "This rifle is not a 'tool' I have use for. A tool, by definition, makes a job/work easier. Any 'job' I can think of legally needing doing can be done better by a different firearm."

With politicians more inclined to appease the lobbyists padding their pockets than working towards keeping their constituents and their children safe, we're going to need more responsible people out there like Dickmann. Read his Facebook post below.
