Liz Cambage speaks on Rio and Race in Latest Episode of Meat Ups

"I'm not gonna go, from the courts, to the gym, to my house for the rest of my life.”

After featuring Flosstradamus and Fat Joe in the first two episodes of Meat Ups, Acclaim have looked local for their third guest to sit down and stuff their face with host Jimmy Hurlston. Only weeks out from Rio, Opals centre Liz Cambage chops it up with the Melbourne burger boss at Footscray’s famous 8 bit.

As expected, Liz is unafraid to speak her mind about any topic, including her much-publicised attendance at music festival Splendour in the Grass in 2015. “[It’s like] Athletes aren't allowed to do anything except for their sport. If you're doing things that are affecting your performance on the field or on the court, it's like, yeah, okay maybe you should suss that out, but if it's not, and you're not hurting anyone and having fun, it's like do what you want to do. I'm not gonna go, from the courts, to the gym, to my house for the rest of my life.”

Cambage also comments on the ongoing issues regarding race in Australia, a topical turn after she was only yesterday involved in a very public disagreement with fellow Olympian Andrew Bogut, after the Boomers centre took to Twitter to trivialise a Black Lives Matter rally in Melbourne.

“It's just a respect thing, 'coz at the end of the day, this land that we live on was taken from people. Personally for me, I was born in London. I have spent my whole life in Australia. I've traveled the world and I honestly think we live in the most beautiful country in the world. I'm so lucky to be Australian and I love our land so much and I think the whole respect for our history as well, comes along with that.”
