Sarah McLachlan To Be Inducted Into The Canadian Music Hall Of Fame

Sarah McLachlan will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at this spring's Juno Awards.

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences will recognize the multi-platinum, award-winning singer and songwriter’s career in Canadian music with a tribute at the 46th annual Juno Awards on Sunday, April 2 in Ottawa, the group announced on Tuesday.

"I’m so honoured to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. This comes as a complete sweet surprise as I still feel like I’m just getting started,” McLachlan said in a release. “I’m truly blessed to be in such incredible company with all of the amazing past honourees."

Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, McLachlan burst onto the Canadian music scene at the age 17 fronting a new wave band named October Game. She left school when she was offered a solo deal and relocated to Vancouver to record and release her first studio album, 1989’s Touch. She followed up with Solace in 1991 and found success outside of Canada with the late-1993 release of her third album, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (which contained “Possession," "Good Enough," and "Hold On"). With her next album, 1997's Surfacing (which contained "Aida," "Angel," and "Sweet Surrender," and generated her first two Grammy awards for "Building a Mystery" and "Last Dance") she cemented her status as one of pop music’s most beloved artists.

McLachlan has gathered numerous accolades throughout her almost 30-year career, including 10 Juno Awards and three Grammy Awards and a Billboard Music Award. In 1997 McLachlan created Lilith Fair, a music festival dedicated to showcasing and supporting female artists

The Canadian Music Hall of Fame, established in 1978, recognizes the country's most influential musicians. Past inductees include Alanis Morissette, Burton Cummings, Anne Murray, Bruce Cockburn, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, k.d. Lang, Neil Young, Shania Twain and Blue Rodeo.
