Last night, stars from the worlds of fashion, music, sports, and Hollywood all showed up at the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala, which honored the British-born designer Charles James and Vogue's Anna Wintour. Every year, the event has a dress code, and while this mostly affects the ladies who show up, this year the "white tie and decorations" decree focused mainly on the men.
According to WWD, this dress code is rigid in its rules: "a black tailcoat, matching trousers with a single stripe of satin or braid in the U.S.; two stripes in Europe or the U.K.; a white piqué wing-collared shirt with stiff front; a white vest; white-colored (e.g., mother-of-pearl) studs and cuff links; a white bow tie; white or gray gloves; black patent shoes, and black dress socks. A top hat is optional."
Essentially, "Downton Abbey" at dinnertime. For the guys who showed up, a bunch honored the dress code instituted by Anna Wintour. Some, like Mario Testino and Neil Patrick Harris, reveled in the very traditional suiting. But other dudes showed up in 'fits that were definitely dope, but flaunted the above rules. Regardless, whether they adhered to the dress code or showed up doing their own thing, these were The Best Dressed Dudes at the Met Gala.
