The Yankees 59FIFTY® is, without a doubt, the most iconic cap design from New Era. Not only is it the brand's best-selling hat, it has also been the basis of countless collaborations and has been referenced throughout pop culture—most notably in music. Though the style of the Yankees fitted has remained pretty consistent over the last several decades, a recent Complex feature, How to Wear a New York Yankees Fitted, reignited a debate about a potential brimless model.
For those who are unfamiliar, this discussion stems from a viral video in which a man is seen rocking a customized Yankees 59FIFTY without the brim.
The look, of course, drew mixed reactions. Some argued you should never mess with a good thing, while others expressed approval of the brimless design and called on New Era to produce it. Well, the headwear brand heard the demands and addressed whether or not a "Yankee with no brim" would ever happen.
"The Yankees 59FIFTY is so iconic and the brim is a key part of that signature aesthetic, so we wouldn’t right now," a New Era representative told Complex. "Having said that, with trends changing at lighting speed, we would never say never."
So there's that. The company has no plans to produce a brimless Yankees 59FIFTY, but isn't ruling out the possibility. If you're into the brimless, you can attempt to remove the bill yourself or cop New Era's six-panel Skully—a fusion of a beanie and strapback.
