Last week, Chinese billionaire Liu Yiqian dished out $170 million for a famous painting titled the "Reclining Nude." The hefty price tag made it the second highest amount ever paid for an artwork at auction. But, according to a recent interview with The New York Times, it wasn't just the famous 1917 oil portrait that he was interested in—he wanted the Amex points.

Yiqian reportedly completed the transaction using his credit card so that he can continue to fly himself and his family members around the world for free.

Last year, after Yiqian purchased an ancient tea cup for $33 million, he earned himself an insane 28 million frequent flyer miles, and that isn't even half of what he just spent.
