Alexander McQueen Could Grace New British Currency

None

George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Alexander Hamilton, Andrew Jackson, Ulysses S. Grant and Benjamin Franklin—they're all historically influential products of the United States and their faces are all emblazoned on our country's currency for that very reason, though Jackson's time may be running out. The honor of having your face on money is one of the highest in the world, but wouldn't it be cool to see some new faces? I mean, Canada put children playing hockey on their $5 note. That's fucking dope. Well, the Bank of England might have some tricks up its sleeve. British Vogue reports that the Bank of England has asked the public to vote on who they think should be placed on the country's new banknotes, which are set to circulate in 2016. One of the leading candidates to get his face on the new 20 pound note? Legendary fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

The voting process will consult the public through focus groups and school visits led by the bank to poll public opinion, with a deadline set for July 19th to nominate someone for the coveted spot. The Bank of England's head honcho, Mark Carney, released a statement with the open public voting that concluded with: "There are a wealth of individuals within the field of visual arts whose work shaped British thought, innovation, leadership, values and society and who continue to inspire people today. I greatly look forward to hearing from the public who they would like to celebrate." Currently, the odds-on favorites are William Hogarth and Richard Attenborough at 4/1 according to Ladbrokes, but McQueen sits in third at 8/1 right now. Solid odds. I'd throw a tenner on that.
