These two artists have found ways to create elaborate portraits without using traditional media or tools. Natalie Irish utilizes her lipstick to make an impact instead of paints. When capturing her subject’s likeness her she literally kisses the page – more kisses for shadows, less for lighter areas. Artist Hong Yi, also known as “Red”, takes a similar, but slightly different route by “painting” with coffee. Yi uses a saucer full of coffee as her pallet, and the coffee cup itself to apply the liquid. Her application technique is also similar to Irish’s but instead of kissing the canvas, Yi employs the rings the coffee cup produces to produce her portraits. [Inhabitat]
