Artist Joe Heaps Nelson bounces around between social critique and political satire in his highly engaging works. Images, often mined from popular culture, fill his canvases and playfully intermingle contemporary and art historical concerns. Mostly, they are just flat out funny. Or, odd, depending on your particular world view. One thing is certain, Nelson knows how to find the absurdity in life.

This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things opens tomorrow at Fuse Gallery. The work will remain on view through March 21, 2012.
