Former NFL wide receiver Sam Hurd was in a bad place facing up to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to drug trafficking earlier in the year. At a hearing today in a U.S. District courtroom in Dallas, judge Jorge Solis sentenced Hurd to 15 years in federal prison.

Hurd has been behind bars since June 2012, when his bond was revoked. On December 14th, 2011, Hurd was arrested in Chicago for allegedly attempting to purchase and distribute large quantities of cocaine and marijuana.
