Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving is likely to have surgery on his right shoulder, forcing him to miss an indefinite period of time, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.
As of now, there's no word on how long the star point guard will be out.
It is unclear if Irving's season is over, but the player has missed 33 of the Nets' 53 games so far. He's dealt with not only the shoulder injury, but lingering knee injuries as well. Irving was previously out for 26 games due to the shoulder injury.
Though Kyrie has only played in 20 games this season, he's lived up to his status as a superstar each time he's played. He has averaged 27.4 points and 6.4 assists in the games he has played. His Nets are 25-28 this season, and they currently sit in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference. Despite his stellar play, the Nets have underperformed, and some have argued that Irving hasn't helped build on the team chemistry that propelled the Nets into the playoffs last season. But with Kevin Durant out all season with his own injury, this year was kind of a wash to begin with.
The Nets face off against the Philadelphia 76ers Thursday night.
