Joe Burrow went with a throwback look with his pre-game tunnel fit at Paycor Stadium on NFL Sunday before taking on the Houston Texans, sporting his fathers No. 16 Montreal Alouettes jersey.
The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback not only paid tribute to his father Jim, who played for the Montreal club from 1977-1980, the Als were also fresh off of the CFL’s East Final elimination game, where they upset the Toronto Argonauts 38-17 to advance to the Grey Cup game. So he was also giving the Als their props.
As the team's defensive back, the elder Burrow would also go on to win the Grey Cup in 1977 in what is known as the “Ice Bowl” against Edmonton, and was a two-time CFL All-Star with the team in 1978 and 1979. The time spent in Montreal has made an enormous impact in the Burrows family tree as Joe continues to keep repping his father’s golden age in the CFL.
"Looking good in our retro jersey Joey B," the Alouettes' Instagram page said.
After the win on Saturday, Alouettes fans took it to social media to show their excitement of their team advancing to the Grey Cup. Meanwhile Argonaut fans were in disbelief of their team's loss.
In Sunday’s matchup against the Texans, Burrow and his team fell short from a come back losing a close one, with the Texans winning 30-27. Cincy will be on short rest when they take on the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the underdog Montreal Alouettes face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Grey Cup in Hamilton, ON this Sunday.
