Just when you thought you had heard and seen it all, this story pops up. A man named Jim Flechtner wrote to the Findlay Courier in Ohio demanding that Ohio State University remove everything having to do with their affiliation to a buckeye. His reasoning? The buckeye plant is a polygamo-monoecious species, which means it possesses both male and female flowers, or in other words, it's a "bisexual."
Are you shaking your head right now? Well, why don't you take a look at the interesting letter explaining his rationale and revealing his findings.
Something in the “Just Ask” column (Page A3, May 29) disturbed me. According to the column, “the Ohio buckeye, Aesculus glabra, bears flowers with both male and female organs on the same tree. It is a monoecious species.”
Do you see things Mr. Flechtner's way now? Yeah, we didn't think so. Stay insane, my friend.
