Demar DeRozan was 0.9 seconds away from putting his name in the record books. Before missing his last shot from the charity stripe with the Toronto Raptors up by one over the Portland Trail Blazers with less than a second remaining, DeRozan was 24-for-24 from the free throw line, surpassing the regular season mark of 23 straight by Dominique Wilkins in 1992. If Demar made that last shot, he would've topped the record of 24 consecutive made free throws by Dirk Nowitzki during the 2011 playoffs.
After the game, DeRozan admitted that he had no knowledge of the record, but at the time, he was also following orders from teammate Kyle Lowry.
According to CBS Sports' James Herbert, DeRozan jokingly told Lowry, "Thanks Kyle, I could've had the NBA record." But deep down, you know Demar is upset and rightfully so. Lowry owes him... big time!
