It’s hard to remember a time when Celtics-Lakers wasn’t a major rivalry, but these were two pretty unfamiliar foes before they locked up in the 1962 Finals. With the Celtics up by four and a minute to go in Game 7, it looked like they were set to cruise to the title. But the Lakers’ Frank Selvy hit two shots in a row to tie the game, and following a Celtics miss with seconds to go Selvy had a chance to win it. His wide open 15-footer rimmed out as the buzzer sounded, and the Celtics won the game in overtime thanks to five points in the period from Sam Jones. And thus, a rivalry was born.
