Barcelona's Dani Alves Gets a Banana Thrown at Him; Reacts by Eating It (Video)

Barcelona's Dani Alves ends a weekend filled with ugly racist overtones with some clever humor.

A known conundrum amongst the black community is whether to eat fried chicken, watermelon, or any stereotypical favorites in front of Caucasians in fear of confirming racial beliefs. Barcelona's Dani Alves has no problem with that apparently.

Spain has had a history of racial incidents, and Alves was well-aware of this when a member of the crowd threw a banana at him as he was taking the corner at Villarreal's El Madrigal stadium. Of course, this comes in a weekend with Donald Sterling's racist comments hovering over it.

Not willing to deny nutritional benefits because of racism, Alves decided to eat the banana in one mouthful.

"We have suffered this in Spain for some time," he said. "You have to take it with a dose of humour. We aren't going to change things easily. If you don't give it importance, they don't achieve their objective."

Barcelona beat Villarreal 3-2, and Alves gets the last laugh. Take that, racism.
