It's hard to beat the versatility of a pair of black sneakers, but you'll want to choose carefully if you're a student at this English academy.
Nottingham Post reports that the Djanogly City Academy sent more than 50 students home on the very first day of school because they weren't wearing "plain black leather shoes" as outlined in its uniform code.
Apparently, not even the black Converse pictured below were "plain" enough to avoid the wrath of the militant administration, as a 14-year-old student was sent home for wearing this exact pair.
"It was the first day back and a lot of people were pulled out of class for having the wrong shoes. We were put in the hall. Everyone was shocked and angry because they were being sent home because of the shoes," the student said.
His mother wasn't pleased to say the least. "I sent my son to school in plain black leather Converse. I don't understand how they can put shoes before education. I don't have the money to buy new school shoes because I have just spent £200 on a uniform," she said. "They have said that my child cannot come back to school until he has new shoes and I don't know when that will be."
Look, we understand that dress codes are tradition at many private schools, but this is flat-out ridiculous. Listen to the kids, bro.
