As a push for increased sustainability begins to pick up steam, Nike is one of the brands leading the way.
On Tuesday, the Climate Group announced that Nike has come on board as part of its RE100 campaign, in which some of the world's biggest companies have made a pledge to use 100 percent renewable energy. Portland Business Journal reports that the sportswear giant is hoping to reach this goal by 2025, which isn't as far-fetched as you might think.
In recent years, the brand has been making some major strides towards full-on sustainability. Its most notable innovation is Flyknit, which Nike says has an average of 80 percent less production waste than its typical products. Portland Business Journal also names ColorDry, the brand's waterless dyeing technique, as one of its most progressive technologies.
"We believe that collaboration is important to accelerate and scale sustainable innovations that have potential to change the world, and Nike is proud to join the leading global brands in RE100 with our commitment to reach 100 percent renewable energy," Nike COO Eric Sprunk said.
Joining Nike in the RE100 push are brands like Goldman Sachs, Johnson & Johnson, and Starbucks. For more information, head over to the Climate Group's website.
