Tinker Hatfield Designed Jordan’s New Runner

With his focus pulled away from the Air Jordan line that made him famous, Tinker Hatfield is looking to his roots in running—and some inspiration from his brother, Tobie—for a new Jordan lifestyle model.

Known simply as the Jordan Standard, the sneaker takes liberal cues from the Nike Sock Dart, which was designed by Tobie and saw a strong retro resurgence in 2015. "Even though it’s inspired by the Sock Dart, it has a modern look," Tinker said in a press release.

While the upper of the Standard maintains the same comfortable stretch fit of the Sock Dart, it's been overhauled on the outside with premium materials including a feathered leather that makes up the majority of the upper. Elsewhere, the runner uses what Hatfield describes as a "high-tech stretch" elephant print-embossed strap and breathable spacer mesh on the collar.

For now, the Standard will be available in triple-black and triple-white colorways. Despite their seemingly simple makeups, Hatfield says there's more than meets the eye. "It’s hard to match colors, so we just sort of celebrate them. And the feathered leather really photographs as a different color because there’s so much shadow," Hatfield said. "To me, that’s a blueprint on how to have a little bit of fun and still make the shoe interesting."

The Jordan Standard will release in limited quantities on Monday, April 30 from nike.com.
