Air Max Day is one of the biggest days in the footwear calendar, and this year more than ever. To celebrate the occasion and to mark the launch of Nike’s latest innovation, the Air VaporMax, Nike introduce London: ON AIR - a series of events across the week in the run up to the big day.
London: ON AIR will feature The Studio, an immersive creative space in Central London. Nike will be unlocking The Studio for three days, offering young Londoners the chance to join workshops in photography, interactive design and music production. On each day from Tuesday 21st March to Thursday 23rd, there will be two workshops in each discipline, with an afternoon session for beginners and an evening session for the intermediate level.
The Mentors
The mentors running the workshops have been selected because they're pushing the boundaries of the field they work in. They’ll be using their expertise and experience to teach the attendees new skills and help them create work inspired by the Nike Air VaporMax, which is dropping on Air Max Day.
The beginner interactive design workshops will be ran by Natalia Stuyk, a Hackney-based video artist who will teach participants how to produce animations that capture light, air and movement in a new way. The intermediate level workshops are going to be hosted by Alice Stewart, who’s internet-driven illustration will give participants a whole new perspective on how they interact with the screen.
For the photography workshops, the beginner level will be taught by Olly Burn, a North Londoner who’s work focuses on capturing the authenticity and the spirit of his subject. His workshop will give participants a chance to shoot outside as well as experiment in the studio. The intermediate workshops will be taught by The Illusion of Depth (Joseph Hayes), who’s experimental approach will teach the participants how to make their own 3D GIF.
Finally, the music production workshops will be run by Radar Radio, the London-based radio station and studio that has a well earned reputation for championing the next generation of London’s talent. During those workshops, the participants will be taught about the foundations of music production, as well as getting the chance to work and collaborate with special guest mentors.
Complex UK have partnered with Nike to support The Studio at London: ON AIR. We’re going to be running our own editorial workshops alongside the event and creating our very own bespoke Complex London: ON AIR zine to mark Air Max Day and to look at the best moments from The Studio.
The Complex London: ON AIR zine will be published and distributed for free across London on Sunday 26th March.
We’re looking for London-based 18-24 year olds to take part in our editorial workshop, led by the Complex editorial team and special industry guests, If you'dlike to get involved please send samples of your work and a link to your Instagram to [email protected].
