This Ultraviolet Light Sanitizes Your Sneakers

The sneaker cleaner of the future.

There may be an easier way to clean your sneakers than painstakingly wiping them down on a regular basis.

The SteriShoe Plus is a new device that blasts a shoe with a powerful UV bulb for 15 minutes at a time, killing bacteria in the process. There isn't much published data yet supporting just how effective the device is, but one study has shown that it reduces the level of fungus in test pairs. Plus, the podiatric association has given the device its Seal of Acceptance. The Plus, shown here, is the sequel to the original SteriShoe model released in 2008.

Killing off bacteria that build up in shoes can help fight infections and ward off unpleasant smells.

As the device is aimed specifically at killing bacteria, it's not necessarily threatening the extinction of more traditional, cosmetic-focused cleaners like Jason Markk.
