As unauthorized sneaker manufacturers continuously get better at making knock-offs, being able to spot the differences between real and fake sneakers can prove to be a daunting task. That's where StockX comes in. As a Marketplace of Things—sneakers included—StockX authenticates every pair before it is shipped to the buyer, making it a safe place to buy and resell. On the latest episode of StockX TV, the Daily Show's Hasan Minhaj stopped in to talk sneakers and even learn how to spot fake "Pirate Black" Adidas Yeezy Boost 350s.

Alongside one of StockX's authenticators, Minhaj learned that the Boost sole is the tell-tale sign between real and fake, with the fake pair actually being the softer of the two.

As a sneakerhead himself, Minhaj has highlighted sneaker culture on the Daily Show by attending SneakerCon and visting DJ Khaled's sneaker closet. Still, his knowledge in sneakers hadn't always been there, as he fell victim to fakes in the past.

"When I was a kid, one of the things you always wanted as a kid was player editions and Rasheed Wallace was a very popular player," he said. "He was an awesome player that actually played in the Air Force 1, so I was like, 'I want these shoes.' I would go on these random websites and you would buy these shoes from China for $100 plus $40 shipping. I remember I got the patent leather black and red Rasheed Wallace shoes. You put them on and they literally felt like wearing Saran Wrap on my feet."
