Disney+ to Debut ‘Shang-Chi,' 12 Other Marvel Films in Imax's Expanded Aspect Ratio

The streaming service will debut 13 MCU movies, including 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,' in Imax’s Expanded Aspect Ratio starting Friday.

Disney+—which just dropped its price by $6 for the time being—is giving Marvel fans way more than they bargained for.

The streaming service will share 13 Marvel movies, including the streaming debut of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, in Imax’s Expanded Aspect Ratio as of this Friday, Variety reports. The move makes Disney+ the first streaming service to use Imax Enhanced features.

The new viewing experience will offer up to 26% more screen picture, making for the best home viewing experience of your favorite MCU films there is.

“Disney, Marvel Studios, and Imax have collaborated for years to bring the world’s most popular films to the big screen, and on Friday we’ll start to bring Imax technology to subscribers with Imax Enhanced viewing in the Disney plus app,” Michael Paull, president of Disney+ and ESPN Plus said in a statement.

Films will vary by market, but those expected to make their way on Disney+ in the updated ratio also include Iron ManGuardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, “Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow.

The move marks the latest step in the prosperous partnership between Disney and Imax, as the MCU has earned $1.6 billion in imax receipts since 2010.

Also in honor of Disney Plus Day this week, the service is available for $1.99 for the first month to new users who sign up through Sunday. The discount will commemorate the two years since the streaming service launched.
