A new trailer for the next entry in the aesthetically unmatched Wes Anderson canon? Don't mind if I do.
Early Wednesday, Anderson and company shared the official trailer for the expectedly star-stacked The French Dispatch, which is billed as a "collection of stories" taken from the final issue of an American mag published in a fictional 20th century French town. As we learned earlier this week, the film is loosely inspired by the New Yorker.
Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Timothée Chalamet, Lyna Khoudri, Jeffrey Wright, Mathieu Amalric, Stephen Park, Elisabeth Moss, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, and Owen Wilson star in Anderson's latest. Phew. Anderson, of course, wrote and directed the film.
"It is more a portrait of this man, of this journalist who fights to write what he wants to write," Anderson told French outlet Charente Libre in 2019 when vaguely teasing the film's story. "It's not a movie about freedom of the press, but when you talk about reporters you also talk about what's going on in the real world."
The French Dispatch, Anderson's follow-up to the stop-motion 2018 dystopian comedy Isle of Dogs, hits theaters on July 24 via Searchlight Pictures.
