Honey Boy, directed by Alma Har'el from a script by Shia LaBeouf, teased the real life experiences–infused art that's to come with the release of its inaugural trailer Thursday.
The film won the Special Jury Award for Vision and Craft at Sundance, where it received a standing ovation, and sees LaBeouf portraying a version of his own father. LaBeouf's screenplay pulls from his own life, with Lucas Hedges and Noah Jupe playing actor Otis Lort at different ages. FKA Twigs also stars, marking her feature film debut.
Amazon Studios purchased the semi-autobiographical critical hit back in February, with a theatrical release set for Nov. 8.
"It turned out both of our fathers were very funny, loving alcoholics that also endured a lot of pain and as a result brought us up in different ways," Har'el toldDeadline earlier this year of her attraction to LaBeouf's script. "We had a lot of similarities that I feel all children of alcoholics share to a certain degree."
LaBeouf previously linked with Har'el as an executive producer on her 2016 project LoveTrue.
LaBeouf's 2019 release schedule also includes The Tax Collector, which reunites him with Fury director David Ayer, and The Peanut Butter Falcon. Earlier this summer, LaBeouf hosted a benefit concert for his Slauson Rec. Theater Company project he co-founded with Tax Collector co-star Bobby Soto.
