Though Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams doesn't have any intel on whether we can expect the embattled New Mutants to hold to its current expected release date, she does have a specific goal in mind for her character Wolfsbane.
Williams joined fellow Thrones star Sophie Turner for a Rolling Stone cover piece by Brian Hiatt, published Tuesday, and the topic of the X-Men entry's fate was broached. "Who knows when the fuck that’s gonna come out," she said. According to Williams, reshoots aimed at making the final product "scarier" have been discussed, though no such shoots have taken place. Williams even recently bumped into co-star Charlie Heaton, who also had no idea on what's next for the Josh Boone-directed film.
As it stands now, though a certain Disney move could change things, New Mutants will be released August 2. The film marks Williams' inaugural turn in the role.
Turner, of course, is also a part of the X-Men universe and will next appear as Jean Grey in this year's Dark Phoenix. For Williams, the idea of having their characters appear onscreen together at some point is too good not to make a reality. "It would be ridiculously stupid if they didn't do that," she told Rolling Stone.
With Dark Phoenix out June 7, Turner is looking forward to treating fans to "Dark Phoenix done right," citing a production during which "the most intense scene I've ever done" turned out to be every other scene.
Elsewhere, of course, the Thrones journey was discussed. Turner said she sees "a lot" of Sansa Stark in herself, and even squeezed in a nod to her Belieber past inspiring her performance, saying the showrunners "always told me, ‘Look at Joffrey as if he’s Justin Bieber and imagine that life.’ That’s the trick—how to get Sophie to act!”
Going deeper on her relationship to the initially wide-eyed, optimistic Sansa, Turner said in actual showbusiness, "You go into something and you think it’s going to be a huge dream, and then you figure out, ‘Oh, wait. I have to be very strategic about everything. And Harvey Weinstein is Joffrey or Ramsay. Probably worse than that. A White Walker.’” (Turner did not work with Weinstein, but did comment on ousted Bohemian Rhapsody director Bryan Singer, who directed her in X-Men: Apocalypse: “Our time together was, like Rami [Malek] said, unpleasant.”)
Williams also had some Thrones insight worth poring over, including some commentary on nailing down some of the HBO hit's gorier sequences. A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin took a moment to acknowledge, “I’ve been so slow with these books. The major points of [HBO's Thrones] ending will be things I told them five or six years ago. But there may also be changes, and there’ll be a lot added.”
