Random Acts of Flyness, the show that chronicles both the inspiring face and the unsightly underbelly of American culture, is now streaming on HBO, but you can watch the entire first episode in the video above.

From the mind of Terence Nance, the brilliant new series breaks the mold of traditional late night TV, taking an innovative, refreshing approach to social commentary and explorations of the black experience.

Nance is best known for writing, directing, and producing The Oversimplification of Her Beauty, a film that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012. Now he’s back to shift the collective consciousness once more.

In addition to working his well-documented magic behind the camera, the Dallas born auteur will also appear on-screen beside revered guest stars including Jon Hamm and Whoopi Goldberg.

Ranging from dramatic performances, to musical pieces, to stop motion animation, each episode of Random Acts is made up of a series of distinct yet complementary sketches, held together by a common theme—affirmations of black life.

If you like what you see up top, be sure to tune in every Friday at midnight for Nance’s latest act.
