Racing developer Codemasters aren't bringing their newest racing game to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4, but that doesn't mean it isn't going to blow you away. GRIDAutosport packs all the authenticity of a GRID racing game but takes away the team micromanagement and allows players get down to the business of racing. Where most modern racing simulators have packed up on options and lap splits filling the screen, the developer has stripped this away and left the interface and controls with a sleek cool.
The cars handling will be challenging to the causal gamer, but for only a lap or two as it is less of an arcade and more of pure motorsports. Tiny tweaks lead to big results and mastering a track is incredibly gratifying.
Gamers can embark on different racing disciplines including touring cars, endurance lap racing, open wheel racing (of the drift variety), street racing and high powered formula one cars. Each discipline require different skills and has different A.I. Racers keeping you in check.
Where GRID really stands out is striping away the overbearing story modes and micromanagement that kept gamers from doing everything but racing. Here the focus is on getting you in the seat. While lap information and times are are available with a press of a button, this info won't be forced onto the player, so the level of depth and immersion are completely customizable.
The single player career will allow players to become the racing pro they always knew they were. As you progress you'll get offers from better teams with better cars but is open so you can complete in whatever racing discipline you like, non-linearly, on tracks taken from the real world.
GRID also features robust multiplayer through RaceNet where players can customize their rides and teams and compete on global leaderboards with new challenges set every week.
GRID may not be coming to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 yet, but it's still one of the best racing games out there from Codemasters, the best in the business. GRID Autosport drops on June 27, for PC Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
